Imprinted
The sculpture features a mother flamingo standing on one leg in her nest with her beak next to her flaminglet. The process began with a study of the skeletal and muscular structure as well as in-person observations of how flamingos at the local zoo move and hold themselves. Photographs from the internet and in-person observation were used to create life-like textures and colors. The flaminglet was made entirely of white clay. The body and feet of the mother flamingo was sculpted from white clay and settled on steel rebar that was wraped with plaster. Spray foam was added to the previously flat underside of the mother's body. A dremmel was used to shape the foan and plaster. The rebar is screwed directly into the stained wood based. Spray foam was used to build the nest and sand and dried clay chunks were used for texture. The entire sculpture was airbrushed starting with the undertones before the body's colors were mixed and applied. A brush was used to paint the eyes and add details to the beak, and feathers.
